Query post 1

First round of queries:
  • Star Wars nominators - AO3 is doing some odd things on the approval screen with these games. Please put at the end of each tag what game the tag belongs to, and I will separate them all out after approval.
  • Assassin's Creed - in the past this has been nominated as one fandom, including this round. I've also been told that there's interest in splitting the games up. Please let me know your thoughts, including how you think the games should be split up if you think they should be.
  • Shin Megami Tensei - you've nominated as a fandom the entire SMT franchise. Do you mean the first game?
  • The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms - this is far too broad. Please nominate a particular continuity of Zelda.
  • Unassociated characters - does anyone know which games these tags belong to: Group: Blaze|Razgriz 1/Kei Nagase|Razgriz 2, Group: Isaac Clarke/Nicole Brennan, Group: Trigger|Strider 1/Avril Mead

Any duplicates, changes, missing tags, let me know!

SMT nominator here, and yes, I do mean the first game! The canonical for the franchise is "Shin Megami Tensei Series" afaict.

AO3's ways are mysterious. Thank you!

Isaac Clarke/Nicole Brennan is Dead Space.

Blaze/Nagase and Trigger/Mead are Ace Combat.

The Isaac Clarke one is from Dead Space. No idea about the rest.

I think the other uncategorized are Ace Combat.

Personally, I feel like the complexity of splitting them up argues against doing it! If I was going to nominate Kassandra/Layla Hassan, for example - two characters who physically meet in-game - it'd be a crossover between Odyssey and Modern Day with your example.

I also feel like people will just generally offer/request the characters they're familiar with, so - to me, at least - it isn't worth the split. Just my two cents, anyway!

You're probably right. Ignore the argument, mod.

(Thinking about it, though, in my example Kassandra/Layla would be Modern Day rather than a crossover because that's where they meet!)

Fixed my Zelda nomination to one of the games. :)

I don't think splitting up Assassin's Creed is necessary. People can simply nominate and request the characters they're familiar with. Splitting them up only makes sense to me if there's a fandom rarity requirement in an exchange like Yuletide, otherwise I don't think it's necessary.

Over a week late asking this, but in terms of the Knights of the Old Republic games (the single player RPGs from the early '00s), what's your preference? Currently there are 8 tags nominated under "Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic (Video Games)" which is the new umbrella tag*, with characters from both games involved, and 2 under "Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic II", which are both definitely from that game.

*Incidentally, is this one of the places the "odd things" are coming in? AO3's relatively recent reorganisation of the SW tags collapsed the two games into one tag as far as canonicals go, so I can imagine that might have had knock on effects.

None of them are my noms (I was asking in advance of nominating*), but of the ones currently in the combined tag, the following are definitely composed entirely of characters only appearing in KotOR II:

Group: Atris/Kreia/Female Jedi Exile (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)
Group: Atton "Jaq" Rand & Kreia (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)
Group: Atton "Jaq" Rand/Bao-Dur (Star Wars) (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)
Kreia (Star Wars) (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)

while these are from KotOR I:

group: Male Revan & HK-47
group: Male Revan/Canderous Ordo

(Canderous Ordo in fact appears in II as well, but he's not called that there)

and these tags combine characters from both:

Group: Atton "Jaq" Rand/Revan (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)
Group: The Jedi Exile & Alek | Darth Malak & Revan (Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic)

*Would it help if when I do add my noms I use a non-canonical tag for the first game?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-27 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Digging around, I discovered that almost all obvious tags for the first game are synned to the tag that's now for both. So I went with "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Bioware 2003)" but that's just a temporary thing, feel free to fiddle around with it however you like.

Duplicate character

Hi there. Just to let you know that ‘Garrett (Thief Original Series)’ appears twice, under Thief (original video game series) and Thief (Video games).

There seem to be a set of duplicates under Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri:

Corazon Santiago (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri)
Corazon Santiago (SMAC)
Deirdre Skye (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri)
Deirdre Skye (SMAC)
group: Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye
Group: Corazon Santiago/Deirdre Skye (SMAC)

Sorry about this; there were a couple of non-duplicates in my noms for the fandom that have ended up disappearing in sorting it out:

✔ Planet (SMAC)
✔ group: Planet & Deirdre Skye (SMAC)

Yeah, that's my fault for not checking the tag set before I did my own nominations .../o\
