Before we start nominating, some preliminary information!
Character Nominations
This year, you are able to nominate characters and character combinations! This means the following:
Crossover Fandoms
Crossover character combinations are eligible for this year as a trial run. There are some basic rules though so that I don't cry a lot.
This year the test for whether a game is part of a series and should be nominated as one is as follows:
Before we start nominating, some preliminary information!
Character Nominations
This year, you are able to nominate characters and character combinations! This means the following:
- Character A - A fanwork where Character A must be the focus;
- group: Character A & Character B - A fanwork where the gen relationship of Character A and Character B is the focus;
- group: Character A/Character B - a fanwork where the shippy relationship of Character A and Character B is the focus. You are also free to nominate group: Character A/Original Male Character or group: Character A/Original Female Character.
Crossover Fandoms
Crossover character combinations are eligible for this year as a trial run. There are some basic rules though so that I don't cry a lot.
- When nominating a crossover, the fandom is Crossover Fandoms. I have already nominated Crossover Fandoms into the tag set so please use that spelling. Not nominating a crossover into this fandom will mean that nomination will be rejected;
- Nominations can be for gen fic or ship fic;
- Nominations are to be written like this: Character A (Video Game 1) & Character B (Video Game 2) (or Character A (Video Game)/Character B (Video Game 2);
- There is no limit of the number of characters that are in a tag set, short of AO3's character limit;
- All characters in the crossover combination must be video game characters.
This year the test for whether a game is part of a series and should be nominated as one is as follows:
- Is the game marketed as being part of a series (i.e. a trilogy, games set in the same world etc etc);
- Are the games that make up the series part of the same continuity or different continuities?
- Is there a significant crossover of characters between the games?
- Dragon Age (Video Games) is the correct tag for any nominations for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age Inquisition;
- Final Fantasy games are separate to each other, except for the ones that are explicitly in continuity with each other
- Kingdom Hearts is a separate continuity from Final Fantasy;
- The Star Ocean games can be nominated separately;
- I am open to discussion for the Kiseki series (Trails in the Sky, Trails of Cold Steel etc);
- I haven't made up my mind about Avengers Academy (Video Game) as I don't know anything about it, so if you want to nominate it please tell me about it in the comments!

I got the same error on everything, except for the non-canonical pairing tags. So I'm guessing it's some sort of problem with AO3, maybe due to the fact that the textarea is titled 'character'? If memory serves, it's usually 'freeform' for exchanges that are open to both characters and pairings. But I know next to nothing about running exchanges on AO3, so I'm just guessing here! For all I know it's me who managed to mess up somehow, apologies if that's the case ^_^;

Date: 2016-06-19 06:22 pm (UTC)As for Ayaka Sayjou, I would reject her as a nomination for Fate/Stay Night as she was not in the published game. Her primary canon is Fate/Prototype, which is not eligible for this exchange.

Date: 2016-06-19 10:58 pm (UTC)Do you have any opinions/guidance on the state of Fallout and Silent Hill's series-ness or not? They're both in that sort of weird limbo where some games have minor connections between characters and plot and such, where others are completely out there on their own with little to no connection at all.
(Personally, I'd prefer to nom them separately, but I'd figure I'd run it by the the mods & community first in case others disagree.)

Date: 2016-06-20 02:20 am (UTC)And if Fallout is good for separate nominations, then I think Silent Hill definitely should be fine; other than the shared town setting (which... even that isn't actually all that consistent), they're way less interconnected than the Fallout games. (The protagonist of 3 is the infant daughter of the protagonist of 1 all grown up, but there's no shared characters other than that connection and 1's protagonist only shows up as a corpse; there's a minor character in 4 who's briefly mentioned as being the brother of the protagonist of 2. Other than that, IIRC, everything is completely separate character-and-plot wise.)

Date: 2016-06-22 11:06 pm (UTC)Sorry, I'm having some trouble wrapping my brain around this! Can you give an example of how this works out when it comes to requesting?

Date: 2016-06-23 02:52 am (UTC)If you have a look at the Dragon Age tagset, you can see that "Cullen Rutherford" is nominated separately to "group: Cullen Rutherford & Cullen Rutherford's Mabari". You only need to request one tag, so you can request "group: Cullen Rutherford & Cullen Rutherford's Mabari" and you'll get a story about Cullen and his dog. If you request two tags, for example "Cullen Rutherford" and "group: Male Trevelyan/Dorian Pavus", then your creator does not have to make you a gift with Cullen Rutherford, Trevelyan and Dorian Pavus, where the latter two are in a relationship. They can create a work about Cullen Rutherford or Male Trevelyan/Dorian Pavus. For offers though, you have to offer two tags.
Basically, if you request two individual character tags (like, "Cullen Rutherford" and "Dorian Pavus") and request that they be shipped together, you run the likelihood of your creator having only matched on one and not the other.
Does that make more sense?
Love Live! School Idol Festival
