Writing additional works (or treats) is encouraged! The way that it works is that you post your work to the collection while gifting it to the recipient. Though not mandatory I do encourage you to email me to check that your potential recipient has enabled the ability to allow people to gift them works as well - this is a new feature that AO3 has implemented in the past year.
