Signups are open!  The signup form is here!  The tagset is here.  There is a known bug where not all characters appear in the drop down menu when you try to signup; please just copy and paste the name as it appears in the tagset.  

Currently matching is being done on an AND basis. This means that for a person to be matched to your request, they must have offered all of the characters you have requested.  If, however, we need to go to OR matching (meaning that a person just has to offer one of the characters you requested to be matched to you) I will let all the participants know.

Also I'm in the process of preparing something special, and I need your help. In the comments to this post, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me your favorite field music, battle music, and boss music tracks.  Thanks! Happy signups!

What is the "description" needed in the requests part of the sign up form? Is this the sort of thing we also put in our Dear Fanwork Creator letters? Is this description instead of those letters or in addition to them?

I've edited the form now to make it clearer as to what goes into the "description" section. I'm not sure how the letters section did not appear, but hopefully that's sorted now.

I'm glad that it can revert to OR, as on the Dragon Age games in my offers I listed both Female and Male versions of the player characters as something I could write. :)

With AND matching you could still end up writing for either the male or female DA characters; it depends on whether you have offered to write the other characters they have requested! Still, I'm glad you're okay with OR matching should it come to that!

Just to make sure I'm getting this right - the AND matching is only for characters, right? It's not for the fanfic/fanart/fanvid tags? I'm cool with ticking all three to give broader matching options is all, and I want to make sure that ticking the combination gives you more matching options rather than creating a super-awkward request set.

And yes, the prompt URL field is for letters! If you write one, that is. Don't worry, it's better to ask questions, even if you think they are obvious, than the form to be a mystery.

Requests will be visible closer to the end of signups! I thought about revealing them sooner, but it looks like the vast majority of people are still writing their prompts. There will also be a searchable spreadsheet of requests afterward as well.

I might be weird but I like OR matching because it means I can ask for a bunch of very different characters for a fandom and not have to worry I won't get it because it's too many characters and who would offer them all anyway? So I wind up trimming who I ask for on the signup but being more open in the letter.

Regardless, I'm super excited that signups are open, and I'm gleeful to hear that you're talking about making a spreadsheet of prompts eventually 'cause I'm really hoping I'll have the energy to treat as well!

I'm going to hold off until requests are revealed before signing up, but I had a couple of quick questions in the meantime, if that's alright. For one, what's the advantage of writing a letter as well as a prompt - is it useful to outline for outlining general things we do and don't want, or something else? And should prompts just be broad fandom likes/dislikes, or should we provide specific ideas? Sorry if these seem like they have really obvious answers, but I've never done anything like this before.

And, just so this post is useful: I love a ton of boss themes, but I'll throw in something a little different in the form of Clash With Evil Personified from Metal Gear Solid 3.

It's difficult to answer your question, because everyone does letters and prompts differently! Some people just put their prompt into the signup and put things like general likes and dislikes, thoughts about the games requested, thoughts about ships, links to let's plays etc etc into a letter, and this is okay. Some people put everything that they're interested in into the prompt and do not do a letter, and this is also okay. Some people write prompts with lots of suggestions and ideas, and some people just put down tropes or themes, and these approaches are also okay.

My suggestion is to write the prompt (and letter if you choose to go that way) in the way that you would like to receive it as a writer, and have fun writing them! The more fun you're having writing it, the more helpful that enthusiasm is for your writer.

I don't know how easy it is to find (it was just after the PS3 launch, IIRC) but if you get the chance and like action RPG games, I recommend it. The plot and translation are a bit strange, but it's lots of fun, and the visuals are amazing.
